English for Maritime Studies is an intensive english language course for deck, engine-room and radiopersonnel who are studying at nautical colleges and naval establishments throughout the world where english is used as the medium of instruction.
the course aims to develop the reading, writing and not-talking skills, as well as the knowledge of nautical terminology and of ships and shipping generally, needed to effectively handle the textbooks, manuals and lecturesencountered at college and on board ship.
An intermediate knowledge of english is assumed and the material can be used either in the classroom or on a self-study basis. A guide to using the book, a ky to the exercises and a tapescript of the lectures available on cassette are included. The material was compiled under the specialist guidance of Captain Peter Young at Leith Nautical College.
